What if we could build a better buggy? That was the question we set out to answer and after countless hours of designing and testing we are happy to introduce the SB18. A high-performance tube chassis built for the TRAXXAS® TRX-4M™ platform. The SB18 was designed, tested and manufactured, all in our home state of Idaho, United States of America! 🇺🇸
What makes the SB18 so amazing? Let’s take a look at all of its features.
Compact design - One of our primary goals was to make the smallest cage possible while still providing enough room for electronics. This means less hang ups on technical lines and obstacles while providing clearance for large tires at full articulation. Integrated sliders with aggressive 45° side angles further improve ground clearance and double as electronics trays.
Custom 5º angled flat skid plate - Our custom skid plate improves overall ground clearance, break over angle and aesthetics while seamlessly integrating into the chassis. Link mount locations have also been adjusted to maintain correct link geometry and wheelbase with a 5° angled flat skid.
3D printed construction - We wanted to be sure that the SB18 could handle the toughest lines you can throw at it. This is accomplished by utilizing the highest quality multi jet fusion 3D printing technology, PA12 nylon, and a surface treatment technique called vapor smoothing. The result is a chassis, skid plate, and battery tray that not only look incredible but are also incredibly durable. One piece construction of the chassis also means less time assembling and more time crawling! For assembly tips and instructions go to:
4WS compatibility - No need for custom suspension links or chassis modifications. Simply bolt up a steering axle with a lay down servo mount and you are ready for some 4WS action!
Crawler specific shock geometry - By relocating the shock mounts we were able to significantly increase wheel travel and articulation without the need for longer travel shocks. Multiple mounting points allow for tuning of ride height, flex, and axle drop characteristics.
Custom battery tray - We designed our battery tray around the popular Gens Ace 300mAh 3S 11.1V 45C Lipo Battery (GEA3003S45JST). A great choice when you are searching for the perfect balance between weight, fitment, and run time. (Also fits Spektrum 3S 11.1V 300mAh 30C LiPo Battery (SPMX3003SJ30)).
Clear Lexan panel set - Customization is one of our favorite parts of the hobby so whether your style is wild, mild, or somewhere in between we wanted the choice to be yours! Please note, the side panels are specially designed to match the contours of the cage. See instructions below for side panel bending prior to painting.
Hardware Kit and Shock Springs - Each kit comes with the necessary hardware to mount up your existing axles, transmission, and shocks to our chassis. A set of springs in our preferred rate is also provided to ensure proper ride height and a lower center of gravity.
Side panel instructions: Two bends are required for precise fitment of the side panels to the SB18 chassis. We recommend bending the panels before applying paint. To simplify the bending process, two scoring lines have been added to one side of each panel. When installed correctly, the scoring lines will be on the outside. For best results we recommend the following steps:
- Set the panel flat on a desk or table with the scoring lines facing up.
- Align the scoring line with the edge of the desk or table and gently bend the panel. The bend is subtle so be careful not to over bend it.
- Test fit the panel and adjust as needed.
- The panels come with a protective film on both sides. Remove the film from the inside of the panel.
- Clean the panel surface with soapy water to remove any oils, debris, or residue left behind by the protective film.
- Apply your favorite paint.
- Once the paint is dry remove the protective film from the outside of the panel.
Steps 4-7 can also be applied to the roof and hood panels. No bending is required for the roof and hood.
Electronics Compatibly: The SB18’s compact design is what allows it to excel in the most technical terrain, but this does come at the cost of available space inside the chassis. We believe that this is a worthwhile trade off based on the availability, popularity, and increasing affordability of compact high-performance microelectronics.
While we can’t guarantee fitment of all available systems we recommend and have tested fitment of the following systems and components:
• Furitek MicroSilk 2025 Brushless Power System Combo for TRAXXAS® TRX-4M™
• Furitek Micro Komodo motor
• Furitek Micro Komodo V2 motor
• Furitek Micro Python ESC
• Furitek Lizzard Pro ESC
• Furitek Python Pro ESC
• Furitek Avatar Micro RX V1 or V2
• Hobbywing Quicrun Mini 24 Motor and ESC
Other systems and components of similar size will also work with the SB18 but as stated above we cannot guarantee fitment of all available options.
The SB18 is not compatible with stock electronics or other brushed systems.
Battery tray compatibility: The SB18 custom skid plate utilizes the same mounting pattern as the a stock TRX4M skid plate so stock and other aftermarket trays will work but some modification of the straps may be required.
Limited Lifetime Warranty: We want you to feel confident in your purchase, so our kit is backed by our Limited Lifetime Warranty. We are very confident in our design, but if you do manage to break your chassis, we will gladly replace it. (Warranty does not cover stripped mounts due to over-tightening your hardware. Warranty replacements do not qualify for free shipping)
Kit includes:
- SB18 Tube Chassis
- Skid Plate
- Battery Tray
- Body Panels
- Shock Springs
- 3mm Shock Spacers
- 4mm Shock Spacers
- Required Hardware
